Our history and impact

In 1976, Sir Ian Gourlay, then Chairman of the United World Colleges (UWC), visited M.R. Kukrit Pramoj, the Prime Minister of Thailand at the time, to offer scholarships to Thai students and to discuss the appointment of suitable individuals to serve on the UWC National Committee. M.R. Kukrit Pramoj appointed Mr. Serm Vinitchaikul as the Chairman of the committee, which operated from 1976 to 1985. From 1986 onward, the committee has been chaired successively by Mr. Sorach Sujaritkul, Mr. Asa Sarasin, Mr. Wittaya Vejjajiva, M.R. Sarisdikorn Kitiyakara, and Mr. Sakdithip Krairiksh.

Later, the UWC National Committee of Thailand resolved to have UWC alumni take on the responsibilities as the National Committee. Since 1976, the committee has selected more than 130 Thai UWC scholarship recipients.
